About:
Arita is the famous and ancient ceramics town located on Kyushu Island in Southern Japan.
It was in this town, in the year 1616, that the Koreans first introduced the art of porcelain pottery to Japan.
“1616/ Arita” are two contemporary porcelain collections, which have been created by Japanese design and art director of 1616/ Teruhiro Yanagihara and Dutch Designers Scholten & Baijings:
Teruhiro Yanagihara designed the Standard-Series and at the same time invited Dutch designers Scholten & Baijings to develop their own line named Colour Porcelain.
 *
The ‘TY Standard’ collection is minimalist, versatile and highly functional, as all the elements stack densely. The collection is designed as a series of items without predetermined functions, and the rectangular and round shapes in either matt or shiny finishes offer endless styling possibilities.

Size in cm: φ16,6 x H2,3
Usage: Suitable for microwave, dishwasher and for use in ovens.
The surface is unglazed
Color: grey

Please note that porcelain is a ceramic material of the highest quality. Admired because of its translucence, it is the strongest ceramic material and is much more durable then normal ceramic.

1616/ makes contemporary porcelain using the specialist skills found in the pottery town of Arita, Japan.
This project has been created by Momota–Touen Corporation with the support by designer and creative director Teruhiro Yanagihara, who invited Dutch designers Scholten & Baijings to develop their own line named Colour Porcelain.
