About:
With a circular surface that has had a slice carved out, this functional stool is intended to meld seamlessly with a space, fitting alongside walls or other furniture pieces. It can also function as a side table in an entryway, at one’s bedside, or next to a sofa. A wooden three-legged frame supports a surface made of plywood-backed natural linoleum. The simple form and feel maintains ISHINOMAKI LAB’s essence, yet embodies a new style of proportion and design. It can be combined with the KOBO COFFEE TABLE as a set.

Design:
Design KEIJI ASHIZAWA (JP). Born 1973, lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from Yokohama University School of Architecture in 1995, Ashizawa spent the first ten years of his career working as both an architect and steel fabricator. The uniqueskills and experience gained throughout these early years continue to influence his approach to design. Ashizawa presents work of ‘honest’ design –simple yet refined, thoughtful and of a light manner –derived naturally through the process of attempting to maximise the potential of each material and its function. He excels in applying these ideas to various scale, from furniture and lighting design to architecture and exhibition design. In 2011, Ashizawa was awarded a ‘Special Award’ by the Japan Institute of Design for his principal participation in the inception of ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY. www.keijidesign.com

ISHINOMAKI LABORATORY started in 2011 as a public workshop for the local communitydevastated by the tsunami triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The label was launched to market the products beyond the local community. Talented designers, from Japan and abroad, work together with the ISHINOMAKI LAB team. Through their activities, the belief is that DIY and design can energizepeople and communities –and life as a whole –in any situation or environment. The hope is that people around the world can rediscover their own innate creativity, to enrich everyday life and society for a more fulfilling future.

The MADE IN LOCAL initiative started to bring ISHINOMAKI LAB’s designs and story to a local context, and has since grown to encompass a more thorough relationship with people (local makers and market), place (locally-available materials), and product. Made in Local projects are currently located in Berlin, Detroit,Londonand Manila.
